WHY NOW

Most logic books treat thinking like a game.

Mazes, riddles, and brainteasers are fun — but they skip the foundational principles that make up real logic. They treat logic as a game, not as a discipline. Children don't need to wait until they're older, or until life turns confusing, to begin learning to reason. The grammar-stage years — when memory is strong and categories are forming — are exactly the time to shape how a child thinks.

THE SUBSTANCE

The intellectual foundation of classical logic — taught gently.

This isn't an activity book. It teaches logic as a science — not through lectures, but through guided conversations, hands-on exercises, and Scripture-aligned thinking. It is gentle, but rich. Age-appropriate, but anchored in depth. It treats logic as a gift from God for understanding truth, testing ideas, and loving clarity.

HOW IT WORKS

Simple enough for any parent

1

Read the lesson aloud

Each lesson is written as a conversation — you read, your child responds. About 15–20 minutes.

2

Do the worksheet

One short worksheet per lesson reinforces the idea. It reinforces — it doesn't repeat.

3

One lesson per week

Follow the 36-week guide with built-in review and memory weeks. Mastery matters more than pace.

Week 1

Your child learns to name things by their nature and spot a contradiction.

Week 16

They're thinking in steps — following cause to effect and "if to then."

Week 36

They can build a thought from start to finish, and test a claim for truth.

WHO IT’S FOR

For families who want formation

  • Christian and classical homeschool families
  • Parents of children ages 5–8 (K–2nd grade)
  • Children who can listen to a read-aloud and discuss ideas
  • Families who want formation, not just worksheets

MEET THE AUTHOR

Joi L. Davenport

Joi L. Davenport is a mother of six who has homeschooled for more than 20 years.

She created Teaching the Tools of Thought after seeing that children need more than information — they need the ability to slow down, ask wise questions, recognize inconsistency, and discern what is true.

During a difficult family season, one of her daughters faced pressure and conflicting messages about what she'd been taught. Rather than simply telling her what to think, Joi taught her how — to weigh claims, ask questions, spot contradictions, and follow truth carefully.

That experience made one thing clear: children shouldn't have to wait until they're older, or until life turns confusing, to begin learning logic.

Rooted in Scripture and shaped by classical learning, this curriculum gives parents a practical way to start early — gently, and now.
